Unconventional Drawing: Energy, Motion and Vibration
FALL TERM AT MASTERWORKS IS CENTERED AROUND THE ELEMENT OF MOVEMENT! Join Charman Prize-winning artist and teacher Sabriyya Harvey on a six-week journey to learn how to draw in the traditional sense, through the teachings of a few unconventional practices.  Participants will go beyond traditional mark-making and use gesture, pattern, shadow, and even music to imply movement and directionality. Duration: 6-week series, meeting each Saturday for 2 hours Dates: Saturdays: November 4  – December 9, 2023 Time: 11:00am – 1:00pm Class Size: Maximum of 10 participants to ensure individualized attention and a supportive environment. Location: Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art’s Classroom (and surrounding gardens) Materials: Basic art supplies such as pencils, charcoal, and paper will be provided. Participants are welcome to bring mediums they are practicing to each session. Guest Artists: Whenever possible we will invite artists and/or performers to share their expertise and artistic perspectives.
Important reminder: A cancellation must be made 14 days before the registration program start date to receive a refund.  No refund will be given within 14 days of the program date.

Sabriyya Harvey is a Bermudian educator and painter whose practice explores collective identity and its effect on culture-keeping and tradition in diverse examples of “community”.  Sabriyya holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Mount Allison University, New Brunswick (2021) and a Bachelor of Education from Brock University, Ontario (2023).

Her work won the Masterworks Charman “Source of Inspiration” Prize (2021). Her artwork has also been represented in the Bermuda National Gallery’s Bermuda Biennial (2022) as well as numerous collaborative projects and exhibitions both locally and overseas in Canada and New Orleans. 

Sabriyya’s work continues to surround the theme of historical origin; the formation of traditions; and more importantly, storytelling. She focuses on exploring the process of upholding culture through memory in order to connect to her Afro-Bermudian heritage to immortalize narratives and connect the past and present through painting and sculpture.
