Learn to work with the natural sources of colour all around us! Join Kimberley Fisher for this 4-week natural pigments course where you will learn the fundamentals of finding natural pigments and working them into dye and lake pigments to use in your craft and artwork.
After introductory first week, each week will focus on a specific dye source.
- Week 1: Introduction to the dyeing and laking processes; scouring and pre-treating fibres
- Week 2: Foraging guidelines; Dye with Loquat leaves to get deep grays and rust oranges
- Week 3: Dye with yellow onion skins to get golden yellows and deep olive greens
- Week 4: Dye with Goldenrod to get bright yellows and browns; Lake pigment demo.
By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills to explore natural dyeing and pigments independently.

Artist Facilitator: Kimberley Fisher
Kimberley is a visual artist and art educator. She works with natural pigments and fibres through various practices, emphasizing the stories and transformations carried by each material. Her participatory art installation, The Living Loom, was featured in the Butterfield Gallery at the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art in March 2025, featuring natural pigments.
Class Size: Maximum of 12 participants to ensure individualized attention and a supportive environment.
