Artist in Residence Workshops

Jordan brings a host of expertise not only as an artist, but as a designer and entrepreneur through his brand, Loquat Shop. He will be bringing these skills to the community through a series of workshops at the Museum.

Bookbinding Workshop

June 11, 11am – 4pm

Join us for an afternoon of chatting, snacking, and bookbinding. Jordan will teach you the basics of decorative coptic bookbinding and coach you through creating your book from scratch. The only materials you may want to bring are a sentimental piece of paper or fabric for your book cover. If you have nothing in mind, fabric will be available to cover your book.

Upcycling with Bermuda is Love

June 17, 11am – 1pm

Join us for an afternoon of upcycling with Bermuda is Love. Be sure to bring old, or well-loved clothes or materials that can be repurposed to create something new to take home. Loquat Shop will provide some materials that can be used with your items.

PAST WORKSHOPS

Resist Dyeing with Indigo Workshop

May 20, 11am – 1pm

Anyone is welcome to participate in the 6,000-year-old practice of indigo dying. The afternoon will begin with a brief history of indigo. A dying demonstration will occur shortly after, followed by designing tote bags and shirts. The resist-dyeing methods of folding, tying, and wax batik will be used to create one-of-kind items. Participants are encouraged to bring one natural fabric to dye.

Sewing Workshops

Learn modern sewing techniques at your own speed. Three difficulty levels are available so that you can start where you are and grow with the individual attention you need. No equipment is needed to create, but you’re welcome to bring your own sewing machine for a lesser fee. Each session is an independent workshop. For example, you will learn the same things in Beginners I and II, they are just at different times on separate dates.

Beginner: May 10, 6pm – 8:30pm, May 13, 10:30am – 1pm
Take home: tote bag
Add-on: tea towel

Intermediate: May 14, 1pm – 4pm, May 17, 6pm – 8:30pm
Take home: bucket hat
Add-on: knot bag

Advanced: June 4 and June 10, 11am – 4pm    CANCELLED
Take home: quilted oven mitt
