About

The Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art is a vibrant energy centre that celebrates
Bermuda’s culture and intrinsic beauty, uniting the community and transforming lives
through art and education.

Our History

The idea that three of America’s most popular and esteemed artists (Winslow Homer, Georgia O’Keefe and Andrew Wyeth) had visited Bermuda and made paintings inspired by Bermuda was the driving force behind this vision of repatriation. However, these lofty ideals seemed a reach too far-particularly given the mechanics in the engine room! In the end, passion, commitment and perseverance gave light and life to a new and true Bermudian identity. Yet it seemed to the naysayers and doubters that the likelihood of seeing any tangible, visible evidence would ever make it to Bermuda’s shores.

We are expanding!

MEET OUR FOUNDER –
TOM BUTTERFIELD

There are many words that could be used to describe Tom Butterfield. ‘Eccentric’,
‘passionate’ and ‘bold’ are just a few that come to mind.

The founder of Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art has always prided himself in marching to his own beat.

He first developed an interest in art while studying at Warwick Academy in the 1960s – in those days they experimented by dropping a potato in ink and cutting holes into it.
