COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

We work with artists, creatives, non-profit organisations and community leaders to continuously deliver on our purpose of showcasing the power and beauty of art, with Bermuda as a muse.

Some of our recent community projects include:

RE-TELLING OUR STORIES

In the Spring of 2023, Masterworks Museum in partnership with Solstice, launched an unprecedented interactive museum experience that united health and wellbeing with art and creativity. The exhibition, Re-Telling Our Stories invited individuals of all ages and backgrounds to engage in a creative and interactive exhibition that identified the various aspects of personal and community identity.

Masterworks transformed the interior space of the Butterfield Gallery into a giant blank canvas, to which the public was invited to paint, write, and draw their stories and experiences. By the end of the exhibition, over 250 squares of canvas were filled by members of our Bermudian community.

In conjunction, the Solstice team led four free Narrative Therapy Tree of Life workshops designed to help people and communities to re-tell their life stories in ways that make them stronger.

Executive Director Risa Hunter explained, “Our goal with Re-Telling Our Stories is to, as a community, embrace who we are, where we’ve come from and where we hope to go while encouraging conversation and growth. We recognise the critical value of creativity and its ability to shape our identity, personal narratives and frame the way we see ourselves and others. We look forward to seeing the impact this collaboration will have on the artists, viewers, and our broader community.”

We are looking for public wall space in highly-trafficked areas and would like to donate a segment of the canvas to be put on display. If you think you may know of a good space to showcase the community artwork, please contact us by clicking here.

BEHIND THE PALETTE

Behind the Palette is an educational and artistic initiative that aims to get community members involved in the arts through connecting and working with contemporary artists. Our objective is to provide a range of Artist Talks, Open Studios, and Workshops often led by or involving artists featured in our Rick Faries Gallery exhibitions. Check out upcoming events here.

Mirrors

This is the 7th year Masterworks has partnered with Mirrors for a Student Art and Digital Competition. Young artists are encouraged to join the competition and submit artworks in response to the theme “My Happy Place”.
