A Personal Ecology Artist Talk with Louisa Bermingham | Tuesday, March 17 from 5:30- 7pm
Join us on Tuesday, March 17 for an Artist Talk with exhibiting artist Louisa Bermingham. We’ll explore the works featured in A Personal Ecology and offer insight into Bermingham’s techniques and creative practice. Enjoy an open, engaging dialogue and a deeper look into her process.
About the exhibition: A Personal Ecology presents a collection of paintings within an expanded installation featuring driftwood, suspended branches, shelves, and handmade objects, such as ceramics, sewn forms, and decorative ephemera. These elements create spatial arrangements that highlight, amongst other things, interconnectedness and impermanence. Together, the works form a personal ecology, an environment shaped by observation, care, and reflection, noticed along the way.
Artist Statement: My work emerges from my journey through life, shaped by what I encounter. Sometimes it takes the form of direct observation, impressions gathered as I move through my community. At other times, it becomes an emotional investigation of personal experience, translated through visual references such as plants, places, and collected objects. Recently, I have been incorporating personally important imagery onto pots and containers of botanicals, along with background references that sometimes appear as repeated patterns. These additions tell emotional stories, reflecting a sense of belonging to our Bermudian culture, recalling quiet or intimate places, or confronting and acknowledging personal trauma and its effects.
