SUMMARY:"Janet Fish: Place in Time" Members' Preview
DESCRIPTION:Janet Fish: Place in Time\nin the Butterfield Gallery and Mezzanine Gallery – November 15\, 2025 – April 18\, 2026\n \n\nOn November 15\, 2025\, the first-ever exhibition of artworks by eminent American painter Janet Fish in Bermuda\, the country in which she was raised\, will open at Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art. This exhibition is a five-decade survey which will investigate Fish’s unique approach to still life painting\, as well as the intersections between her life\, her upbringing in Bermuda\, and her artistic practice. \nFish lived in Bermuda from the age of 10 until her graduation from the Bermuda High School for Girls in 1956. Her grandfather\, American Impressionist Clark Greenwood Voorhees\, was central to the American artistic community in Bermuda in the early twentieth century\, while her mother\, painter and sculptor Florence Whistler Fish\, also had personal and career ties to the island. Fish therefore grew up surrounded by not just the beauty of Bermuda\, but also the splendour of its art and culture\, influences which she carried into her career as a professional artist. \nJanet Fish: Place in Time will highlight the resonances of these and other life experiences\, particularly the rarely acknowledged but ubiquitous presence of subtropical colours\, light and iconography throughout her art. Her enchanting still life paintings\, which often included colourful textiles\, tropical fruits\, flowers and seashells\, often drew inspiration from her memories of Bermuda\, as well as her extensive travels. The island’s dense\, layered environment has also been cited as an influence on her layered and complex compositions. Through artworks\, objects and archival materials\, Janet Fish: Place in Time will explore Fish’s distinctive personal history and artistic approach\, showing how the two are interconnected while also marking her as one of American contemporary art’s most daring and individual artists. \nMelissa Messina\, an international art curator and Executor of the Mildred Thompson Estate\, is co-curating the exhibition. She states: “As a curator who has spent over twenty years organising exhibitions primarily for under-recognised women artists\, it is a joy to have the opportunity to work on this timely project with Dr Sara Thom and Masterworks. Fish is among the most important contemporary American painters\, pushing boundaries of the still life genre for six decades. Her work is sure to inspire the audience on the island where she was first inspired to become an artist as a child.” \nOrganising this exhibition\, the first for Janet Fish in Bermuda\, and a major survey of artworks from across her career\, is a particular honour for Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art. Masterworks Executive Director Risa Hunter states: “It is a profound honour to present this exhibition of artworks by Janet Fish\, an artist whose work has redefined contemporary still life with energy\, colour\, and movement. I am deeply grateful to Fish\, whose heart for hosting an exhibition in Bermuda has been the bedrock of this show. I hope that visitors leave inspired\, delighted\, and as moved by Fish’s work as we have been in preparing this landmark exhibition.” \nJanet Fish: Place in Time is curated by Melissa Messina and Dr Sara Thom and organised in close collaboration with the artist’s studio and DC Moore Gallery\, New York. A major catalogue designed by Avarie Graham and with essays by Messina and Thom will be published by Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art in conjunction with the exhibition. \nSupport for this exhibition is generously provided by individual and corporate sponsors\, including Margot Perot and Family\, Michael and Jane Neff\, Tracy Gibbons\, Carol Faries\, Claudia Wardman\, Scott Hunter and Janet Kemp\, Jim and Debbie Butterfield and Isabelle Ramsay-Brackstone\, as well as BWS-BOSS Ltd.\, Rosewood Bermuda and DEMCO. \n\n \nKEY DATES AND EVENTS\n\n\n\nExhibition Dates: November 15\, 2025 – April 18\, 2026\n\n\nPrivate Members’ Preview: Friday\, November 14\, 2025\, 5:30pm – 7:30pm\n\n\nPublic Opening: Saturday\, November 15\, 2025\, 10am – 4pm\n\n\nPublic Programme with Exhibition Curator Melissa Messina: Saturday\, November 15\, 2025\, 5pm-7:30pm

SUMMARY:"Metanoia" Charles Harrop Griffiths & Ajani Tucker: Exhibition Opening
DESCRIPTION:Opening Friday\, November 7 in the Rick Faries Gallery is Metanoia featuring the work of Charles Harrop-Griffiths and Ajani Tucker. Metanoia is an exploration of what constitutes the ‘real’. The exhibition examines how digital processes shape\, distort\, and redefine our understanding of the material world. Both artists are concerned with how works that exist in digital space are rendered—or translated—from metaobjects into tangible art objects. \nCharles Harrop-Griffiths is a London born British Mixed Media artist currently residing in Bermuda. His work balances on the edge of a physical and digital art process in response to the imbalance between reality and technology today. He produces etchings\, paintings\, photography as well as a wide range of digitally produced images\, animations and Virtual Reality experiences. His subjects differ widely\, but relate closely to the impact of technology on society. He has a keen interest in the importance of architecture\, nature and history which he attempts to reflect in his work. Charles has a background working in the film and architecture industries\, and studied Art History BA at University of Nottingham\, and Fine Art MA at University of the Arts London. \nAjani Tucker is a Graphic Designer and 3D Artist based in Bermuda. His work lives at the intersection of digital art and animation\, with a style that’s contemporary\, abstract\, and deeply rooted in optical play. Whether it’s on screen or in print\, he aims to create pieces that feel like they’re in motion—alive with energy\, colour\, and illusion. While I’m formally trained in graphic design\, my journey into 3D and animation has been entirely self-taught. That hands-on experimentation has shaped a practice that leans into bright\, bold palettes and unexpected forms. He is not driven by a single inspiration\, but he has always been drawn to the vibrancy of colour and the way it can transform a visual experience. Over the past four years\, he has exhibited locally and internationally\, including being selected for the Charman Prize Exhibition with an AR art piece as well as being exhibited at The Loren Hotel in Austin Texas. He views each project as a chance to push his ideas further and blur the line between still image and animation. \nMetanoia will be available to view until December 2\, 2025. Works will be available to purchase on the Rick Faries Gallery website or in person\, from the night of the opening until the exhibition closes. Special thanks to the Bermuda Arts Council\, and Great Sound Ltd. for their support of this exhibition.

SUMMARY:"Meet Us In The Onion Patch" Exhibition Opening and Opening Event of Bermuda Tourism Authority's Art Month
DESCRIPTION:Meet Us In The Onion Patch | October 1 – November 24\, 2025\, in the Marée Lounge at The Loren \nOpening October 1\, to mark the beginning of the Bermuda Tourism Authority’s Art Month\, Bermudian artist Jahbarri Wilson will present a solo exhibition\, Meet Us In The Onion Patch\, in the Marée Lounge at The Loren. The exhibition is the fourth in a continuing partnership between Masterworks Museum and The Loren\, designed to showcase local artists beyond traditional gallery spaces. \nWilson’s vivid canvases blend abstraction with loose figuration\, creating works that feel both intentional and spontaneous. His practice is driven by curiosity—about Bermudian history\, global cultures\, and the expressive possibilities of painting. In 2024\, Wilson received a Bermuda Arts Council grant for an artist residency in Peru. There\, he explored local traditions\, learning to source and process natural pigments as well as foraging clay. This experience reflects his broader approach: drawing inspiration from his travels\, building cultural connections\, and highlighting the shared threads of human experience. Wilson views creation as a form of play—mental\, physical\, emotional\, and spiritual—that allows him to explore the essence of Bermuda and its people. Meet Us In The Onion Patch — a  symbol that has dual and at times conflicting meanings for Bermudians — captures the dualities running throughout Wilson’s work: personal versus communal; physical versus spiritual; playful versus reflective; deliberate versus spontaneous. \nThe exhibition will be on view from October 1 – November 24\, 2025\, with a public opening reception – the opening event of Art Month – on Sunday\, October 5\, from 6-8pm in the Marée Lounge\, at The Loren. \nThe opening reception is sponsored by the Bermuda Tourism Authority\, The Loren\, and Goslings Limited. \nAbout the Artist:\nJahbarri A. Wilson is a self-taught Bermudian artist whose style is shaped by a perpetual ‘tug-of-war’ between the conscious and subconscious. His mixed media work spans painting\, drawing\, sculpture and fashion. Wilson’s practice blends abstraction with loose figuration\, creating works that feel both intentional and spontaneous. His practice is driven by curiosity—about Bermudian history\, global cultures\, and the expressive possibilities of painting. His first solo exhibition opened at the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art in October 2022; in 2021 he launched a range of limited-edition sweaters accompanied with original artworks. He has also exhibited in the 2021 Fall Members Show at the Bermuda Society of Art\, where his piece Corporate Dilemma won first place\, and in the 441 group show at Masterworks Museum (2020) alongside Je-Shae Pace\, De’Javon Paynter and Toni Tona. As part of the 2024 Bermuda Tourism Authority’s Art Month\, Jahbarri completed the work Star’erfolk as a live painting on the grounds of City Hall. \nWilson spent several years in Los Angeles working for Bermudian designer Khamari Greaves and now teaches art at Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation.

SUMMARY:"In His Image" Exhibition Opening
DESCRIPTION:In His Image by Larussy Romero Rick Faries Gallery | August 8 – September 9\, 2025 \nKnown for pieces that blur the line between art and personal reflection\, Larussy Romero’s latest body of work draws on themes of identity and spiritual transformation. ‘This year\, I chose to work on myself\,’ she shares. ‘Not just creatively\, but spiritually.’ A personal journey of self-exploration led to the creation of seventeen new pieces\, each one rooted in spiritual core values. \nIn His Image opens in the Rick Faries Gallery on Friday\, August 8 with a reception from 5:30 – 7pm. \nThe following artist biography and statement are shared in the artist’s own words: \nArtist Biography: ‘Larussy Romero is a fluid abstract artist whose work is rooted in faith\, identity\, and spiritual reflection. Her creative journey is a walk with God—guided by the belief that art is not just expression\, but revelation. Each piece is a visual prayer\, born from personal surrender\, sacred scripture\, and the deep knowing that she was created in His image. ‘She explores themes of inner growth\, emotional healing\, and divine presence—often inspired by quiet moments with the Holy Spirit and the ever-unfolding fruits of the Spirit. Her work invites viewers to return to themselves\, and in doing so\, return to God. ‘Her second solo exhibition celebrates the spiritual DNA we carry as reflections of the Creator. Her pieces do not ask for attention—they offer permission: to heal\, to remember\, to become.’ \nArtist Statement: \n‘I chose to work on myself.\nNot to become someone new—\nbut to return to who I’ve always been in Him.\nTo walk with the Holy Spirit.\nTo surrender. \nI asked God to place a voice on my path\,\na guide who could speak to where my spirit was sitting.\nHe sent Dr. Saudia Bean.\nShe looked into me and said:\n“You were created in His image.”\n(Genesis 1:27 – So God created mankind in His own image…) \nThat truth opened me. \nIf I am made in His image\,\nthen the fruits of the Spirit are not something I need to chase.\nThey are already within me.\nThey are my nature—my DNA. \nGalatians 5:22-23 –\n“But the fruit of the Spirit is love\, joy\, peace\, patience\, kindness\, goodness\, faithfulness\, gentleness\, and self-control.” \nThese pieces are not aspirations.\nThey are reminders.\nAnchors.\nReflections of who I am—because of who He is. \nLove (1 John 4:8 – God is love)\nJoy (Nehemiah 8:10 – The joy of the Lord is your strength)\nPeace (Isaiah 26:3 – You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast)\nPatience (Romans 12:12 – Be joyful in hope\, patient in affliction\, faithful in prayer)\nKindness (Ephesians 4:32 – Be kind and compassionate to one another)\nGoodness (Psalm 23:6 – Surely Your goodness and mercy will follow me)\nFaithfulness (Lamentations 3:22-23 – Great is Your faithfulness)\nGentleness (Proverbs 15:1 – A gentle answer turns away wrath)\nSelf-Control (2 Timothy 1:7 – God gave us a spirit… of self-control) \nThis work is my thank-you.\nTo the Spirit that lives within.\nTo the Word that never left me.\nTo the God who created me to reflect Him— \nThis is not just art.\nThis is identity.\nThis is image.’ \nKEY DATES AND EVENTS \n\nOpening Reception: Friday\, August 8 | 5:30 – 7pm\nExhibition Dates: August 8 – September 9\, 202

SUMMARY:441 Artist Talk
DESCRIPTION:441 Artist Talk | July 3\, 5:30 – 7pm \nJoin us for an artist talk with the artists of 441: Jordan Carey\, OYANGO\, Nadiyah Brown\, and Chyna Talbot. \nHear from the artists themselves about their works in the show\, their practice and more\, on Thursday\, July 3 from 5:30 – 7 pm in the Rick Faries Gallery. \nMembers FREE\nNon-Members $10 \nJordan Carey (@yung_sensitive) is a Bermudian designer and artist whose work focuses on marginalization and mundanity’s capacity to build more intentional relationships to craft and commerce. In January 2020\, Carey launched Loquat (@loquatshop)\, an independent fashion and accessories brand focused on empowering marginalized people. The Loquat flagship store and manufacturing space opened in May 2022 in Portland’s Old Port. This was followed\, in 2025\, by Loquat’s second location in the city of Hamilton\, Bermuda. Carey’s individual practice combines traditional Bermuda kite-making\, paper-making\, and natural dyeing to create narrative kite frames with collage and charcoal. His approach to sourcing\, manufacturing\, collaboration\, and ephemerality in Loquat and kite-making coagulates into larger critiques of extractive relationships within colonial capitalism. \nNadiyah Brown (@eboniseas) is a Bermudian photographer based in Mississauga\, Ontario. Her practice utilizes photography and mixed media to explore themes of nostalgia\, joy\, and identity within the Black lived experience of Bermuda and the Caribbean. Rooted in personal and cultural memory\, her work functions as a visual archive that preserves stories reflecting her heritage and contribute to ongoing conversations about history\, belonging\, and the evolving nature of the diaspora. \nOYANGO is a collaboration between creative and life partners Liana (@liana.nanang) and Ajala Nanang Omodele (@childofsango). OYANGO are jalalu – Memory Keepers – and their work honours their Ancestors and the power of their Orishas\, Oya and Sango. OYANGO’s art centres Blackness and the revolutionary power of Black love and resistance. Incorporating their passion for Bermuda’s history\, OYANGO channels their reverence for the sacrifices of those who came before them into visual art that pays homage to their storytelling forebears. \nTogether\, Liana and Ajala founded Unchained on the Rock\, a platform focused on Black liberation in Bermuda and beyond\, and have been interviewed by Forbes. OYANGO has displayed their work in “Whayasayin” (2023) at the Bermuda Society of Arts. \nAjala is a poet\, author and educator who has authored several books for young readers: Dame Lois: The People’s Advocate\, They Called Him ‘Roose’: Pauulu Kamarakafego and the Making of a Bermudian Revolutionary and Look for Me in the Whirlwind: A Story of Marcus Garvey. Later this year\, he will publish To Be Free Is Very Sweet: Sally Bassett\, Mary Prince & the True Story of Slavery in Bermuda. Ajala’s poetry has been published in Moko: Caribbean Arts and Letters and was selected for the 2022 Bermuda National Gallery Biennial. \nLiana is multidisciplinary artist who won Use of Materials in the 2021 Charman Prize at Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art. Her poetry and visual art were selected for the 2022 Bermuda National Gallery Biennial. She has also displayed work in ‘Taking Shape’ (2022) and the Charman Prize (2019) at Masterworks and ‘Exhibition on Emancipation’ (2020) and ‘Bredrin’ (2022) at the Bermuda Society of Arts. She won Best Columnist in the 2017 Best of Bermuda Awards and her photography and writing have featured in The New York Times. \nChyna Talbot (@chyna.mp3) works primarily with charcoal\, drawn to its raw\, expressive quality and its ability to hold both darkness and light within a single stroke. Recently\, her practice is rooted in personal history and collective memory\, with a particular focus on the injustices surrounding the Tuckers Town land acquisition in the 1920’s; a traumatic event that displaced her own family just over a century ago. Through her work\, she aims to give voice to this chapter of Bermudian history and explore the lingering effects it has had on identity\, belonging\, and generational memory. \nFor Chyna\, charcoal is not just a material; it is a metaphor. The messiness of the medium reflects the chaos of loss and erasure\, but it also offers the possibility of transformation. Her process often begins in disorder and gradually moves toward something beautiful and whole\, echoing the journey of healing and reclaiming space through art. \nEarly childhood spent in the Philippines is when Chyna first discovered her artistic passion\, but the true turning point in her artistic journey came in recent years when she discovered the cathartic power of charcoal. It allows her to process complex emotions and connect deeply with her own story\, while also inviting others to reflect on the stories that shape them. \nIn creating these works\, she hopes to not only preserve memory but also provoke dialogue about land\, legacy\, and the quiet resilience of the Bermudian people.
