SUMMARY:Artist Talk: Palimpsest | Meg Walters
DESCRIPTION:Palimpsest Artist Talk with Meg Walters | Thursday\, May 7 | 5:30-7pm \nJoin us on Thursday\, May 7 for an Artist Talk with Meg Walters. We’ll explore the works featured in Palimpsest and offer insight into Walters’ techniques and creative practice. Enjoy an open\, engaging dialogue and a deeper look into her process\, and the works on view. This special conversation will feature fellow artist and longtime friend Stratton Hatfield\, offering a candid exchange shaped by their shared history and artistic practices. \nPalimpsest presents a body of work shaped by a life lived between Bermuda and Australia. Through layered imagery and painterly gestures\, this exhibition explores impermanence\, displacement\, and the evolving idea of home. Walters offers a contemporary perspective on Bermuda’s landscape\, filtered through distance\, memory\, and dual belonging. \n\n\nArtist Statement: My upcoming exhibition with Masterworks is a visual collection of places and stories. Having spent half of my life in Bermuda and half of my life in Australia\, the transient imagery is meant to impart a sense of impermanence.  Fleeting moments\, not quite fully distilled\, float across the canvas to invoke the impression of never completely belonging to one place or another. The idea of ‘home’ is questioned as well as an inquiry into our connection to place and ourselves. \nBeing able to showcase my work in Bermuda after building a career in Australia over the past eight years is a significant landmark for me. My time living off the island has allowed me to interrogate the landscape and history of Bermuda from a lens of objectivity\, integrating my own Australasian perspective. I look forward to sharing a uniquely contemporary take on Bermuda and its landscape and people. \n– Meg Walters \n\nArtist Bio: \n\nMeg Walters is an emerging multi-disciplinary artist from Bermuda who now lives and works in Newcastle\, NSW (Mulubinba). She has been a finalist in The Glover Prize\, The Portia Geach Memorial Art Award\, The Fisher Ghost Art Prize\, The Hawkesbury Art Prize and she will be a participating in the 2026 Bundanon Residency. She has held ten solo shows and her works are held in private and public collections in Australia and internationally. \nWalters received her Foundation Diploma in Fine Art from Chelsea College in London followed by a Bachelor of Arts (Illustration) from Newcastle University\, Australia. More recently\, she continued her studies at Byron School of Arts in Northern NSW before returning to Newcastle where she now lives and works with her partner and two children.

SUMMARY:Opening: Visions of the Vernacular: Architecture in the Masterworks Collection
DESCRIPTION:Visions of the Vernacular: Architecture in the Masterworks Collection\nin the Butterfield Gallery\nMay 2 – September 12\, 2026 \nJoin us for the opening of our upcoming exhibition in the Butterfield Gallery\, Visions of the Vernacular: Architecture in the Masterworks Collection. The Museum will host an opening reception on Friday\, May 1\, from 5:30-7pm. The exhibition will be on display from May 2 0 September 12\, 2026. \nArchitecture is a crucial component of what makes Bermuda so historically and visually unique. Throughout the Island’s modern history\, local and visiting artists have reflected this by foregrounding Bermuda’s architectural vernacular as a subject in their work – studying\, celebrating\, and re-interpreting its forms. Visions of the Vernacular: Architecture in the Masterworks Collection presents selected works of art from the Permanent Collection\, dating from the early nineteenth century to the present day\, which illustrate the distinctive character of Bermuda houses and the Island’s broader built landscape. \nVisions of the Vernacular: Architecture in the Masterworks Collection highlights fundamental elements of Bermudian architecture which artists in the Permanent Collection represent from a variety of perspectives – depicting the geometric patterns of rooflines\, the half-secluded spaces of verandas\, and the framing forms of gates and pillars. These images invite the viewer to consider the social functions and symbolic meanings of these and other vernacular architectural features\, as understood by the people living within and around them as well as the artists illustrating them. \nThe exhibition is complemented by a participatory installation by Kimberley Fisher\, functioning as both a workshop and shared art-making space. The installation encourages reflection on vernacular forms as spaces of memory\, identity\, and lived experience. \nVisions of the Vernacular: Architecture in the Masterworks Collection was curated by Dr Sara Thom and Max Grainge.

SUMMARY:Opening: Palimpsest | Meg Walters
DESCRIPTION:Palimpsest | May 1\, 2026 – June 27\, 2026 \nKey Dates:Opening Reception: Friday\, May 1 | 5:30 – 7pmArtist Talk: Thursday\, May 7 | 5:30 – 7pm \nFamily Workshop (2-part series): Clay Sculpture: Saturdays: May 9 and June 6 | 10am – 12:30pmPalimpsest presents a body of work shaped by a life lived between Bermuda and Australia. It is interpreted as a ‘scraping back’\, revealing a complex layering and erasure of materiality. Embedded in each painting is the passage of time\, markers of lived experience\, personal history\, destruction and formation. As each artwork reveals itself through the slow process of gradually applying and removing paint\, the artworks bear witness to the multiplicity of self. \nArtist Statement \nGrowing up in Bermuda and now residing in Australia\, I’ve become more interested in the psychological and emotional residue of place than the place itself. Each painting becomes an exploration of memory\, an unravelling of time\, space and identity. I’m searching for that indiscernible quality or impact that holds our attention momentarily\, gives us pause from our own thoughts and life to reflect. \nIt is through this deeper contemplation that I have come to appreciate where home truly resides. \nBeing able to showcase my work in Bermuda after building a career in Australia over the past eight years is a significant landmark for me. My time living off the island has allowed me to interrogate the landscape and history of Bermuda from a lens of objectivity\, integrating my own Australasian perspective. SUMMARY:Premiere Film Screening of Janet Fish: Catching Light
DESCRIPTION:Premiere Film Screening of Janet Fish: Catching Light | April 16\, 5:30 – 7:30pm \nJoin us on Thursday\, April 16\, for a premiere film screening of Janet Fish: Catching Light\, a short documentary that explores the life and art of celebrated American artist Janet Fish (1938-2025) who spent her formative years growing up on the island of Bermuda. This special closing event is to mark the end of the landmark exhibition Janet Fish: Place in Time. The film takes the audience on a cinematic journey\, combining breathtaking visuals with intimate interviews and beautiful representations of Janet Fish’s paintings. The film shares insights into Fish’s unique ability to capture light and the importance of reflection\, time\, and space in her work. \nThe audience is invited into her process; her mastery of colour and movement in the ‘still’ life form. As interviewee Lindsay Wragga says ‘She brought life into everything she touched. Her paintings made the objects more alive than they were without her…brighter than the sun’. \nGuests will have time to explore the exhibition before settling in for the 30-minute film screening\, followed by a Q&A with the documentary’s director and producer\, Paul McGuire. Janet Fish: Catching Light incorporates interviews with artist Robert Kushner\, art historian Vincent Katz\, gallerist Bridget Moore\, Janet’s partner of decades\, artist Charles Parness\, alongside former assistants\, models for paintings and friends. Together with archival photographs and a sumptuous selection of her oil on canvas paintings\, the film explores Janet’s commitment to pushing boundaries and blazing her own path. Janet once said\, ‘I see light as energy\, and energy is always moving through us. I don’t see things as being separated. I paint through the painting because everything is part of everything else.’ \nThe film shares insights into Janet Fish’s unique ability to capture light and the importance of reflection\, time\, and space in her work. The audience is invited into her process; her mastery of colour and movement in the “still” life form. As interviewee Lindsay Wragga says\, ‘She brought life into everything she touched. Her paintings made the objects more alive than they were without her…brighter than the sun.’ Director and Producer\, Paul McGuire says\, ‘It is a great honour to be premiering the film at the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art\, on an island where Janet spent close to a decade of her teenage years\, a place whose vibrant colours and amazing light inspired Janet’s unique creativity throughout her career.’ ‘As a filmmaker\, it can be challenging to create a documentary that encapsulates the subject’s life. Janet’s work\, the words of her peers\, and those she loved\, made creating this film unforgettable.’ \nAdmittance: free for members | $25 for non-members.\nTicket includes one complimentary drink. \nJanet Fish: Catching Light Credits\nDirector: Paul McGuire\nEditor: Vanessa Gould\nComposer: Bartoz Gruchala\nDirector of Photography: Nelson Hume \nThank you to Rosewood Bermuda for their generous support of this event.

SUMMARY:Artist Talk: A Personal Ecology | Louisa Bermingham
DESCRIPTION:A Personal Ecology Artist Talk with Louisa Bermingham | Tuesday\, March 17 from 5:30- 7pm \n\n\n\nJoin us on Tuesday\, March 17 for an Artist Talk with exhibiting artist Louisa Bermingham. We’ll explore the works featured in A Personal Ecology and offer insight into Bermingham’s techniques and creative practice. Enjoy an open\, engaging dialogue and a deeper look into her process. \nAbout the exhibition: A Personal Ecology presents a collection of paintings within an expanded installation featuring driftwood\, suspended branches\, shelves\, and handmade objects\, such as ceramics\, sewn forms\, and decorative ephemera. These elements create spatial arrangements that highlight\, amongst other things\, interconnectedness and impermanence. Together\, the works form a personal ecology\, an environment shaped by observation\, care\, and reflection\, noticed along the way. \nArtist Statement: My work emerges from my journey through life\, shaped by what I encounter. Sometimes it takes the form of direct observation\, impressions gathered as I move through my community. At other times\, it becomes an emotional investigation of personal experience\, translated through visual references such as plants\, places\, and collected objects. Recently\, I have been incorporating personally important imagery onto pots and containers of botanicals\, along with background references that sometimes appear as repeated patterns. These additions tell emotional stories\, reflecting a sense of belonging to our Bermudian culture\, recalling quiet or intimate places\, or confronting and acknowledging personal trauma and its effects. \n– Louisa Bermingham

SUMMARY:Opening: A Personal Ecology | Louisa Bermingham
DESCRIPTION:A Personal Ecology | March 6\, 2026 – April 25\, 2026 \nKey Dates: Opening Reception: Friday\, March 6 | 5:30 – 7pmArtist Talk: Tuesday\, March 17 | 5:30 – 7pmFamily Workshop: Still Life with Louisa Bermingham: Saturday\, March 14 | 10am -12pm \nOpening on Friday\, March 6\, A Personal Ecology will present a collection of paintings within an expanded installation featuring driftwood\, suspended branches\, shelves\, and handmade objects\, such as ceramics\, sewn forms\, and decorative ephemera. These elements create spatial arrangements that highlight\, amongst other things\, interconnectedness and impermanence. Together\, the works form a personal ecology\, an environment shaped by observation\, care\, and reflection\, noticed along the way. \nArtist Statement: \nMy work emerges from my journey through life\, shaped by what I encounter.

SUMMARY:Artist Talk: Better Would | Kimberley Fisher with Ish Yakub Corday and Blair Raughley Masters
DESCRIPTION:Better Would Artist Talk with Kimberley Fisher\, Ish Yakub Corday\, and Blair Raughley Masters | Thursday\, January 22 from 5:30- 7pm \n\n\nJoin us on Thursday\, January 22\, in the Rick Faries Gallery for an Artist Talk with Kimberley Fisher\, Ish Yakub Corday\, and Blair Raughley Masters. We’ll explore the works featured in Better Would and offer insight into the artists’ techniques and creative practices. Enjoy an open\, engaging dialogue and a deeper look into their process. \nAbout the exhibition:\nBetter Would is an art installation by Kimberley Fisher with photography by Ish Yakub Corday and Blair Raughley Masters. This exhibition is a body of work that expands a way of making initiated by Kimberley Fisher; one that relies on transmission and translation in the creation of a singular\, yet multi-authored visual language. This process of making challenges the notion of solo authorship\, materially and conceptually\, through the collaging of ideas\, material\, and production. \nFisher\, a visual artist\, is working with Yakub Corday\, a visual storyteller and writer\, and Masters\, a photographer\, to explore the tensions between caring – for self\, and others – and obligation. Initiated either by written passage or photographic creative direction with her collaborators\, Fisher generates cyanotype collages that respond to practices\, to performances\, to the ritual\, of care.

SUMMARY:Close By | Phoebe Hughes & Abi Box: Artist Talk
DESCRIPTION:Close By Artist Talk with Phoebe Hughes & Abi Box | Thursday\, December 11\, from 5:30 – 7pm \nJoin us on Thursday\, December 11\, in the Rick Faries Gallery for an Artist Talk with Phoebe Hughes and Abi Box. We’ll explore the works featured in Close By and offer insight into the artists’ techniques and creative practices. Enjoy an open\, engaging dialogue and a deeper look into their process. \nPhoebe Hughes is a Bermudian artist living and working in London. She graduated with First Class Honours in Fine Art Painting from Wimbledon College of Arts\, UAL. Hughes’ practice is deeply rooted in her Bermudian heritage\, with the island’s vivid landscapes and culture serving as a constant source of inspiration. Colour is a fundamental element in Hughes’ work\, as she naturally gravitates towards creating scenes rich with exaggerated hues. Recently\, her practice has evolved to include mixed media compositions\, blending painting with screen printing to reimagine the essence of Bermuda through abstract\, immersive landscapes. Preferring to work large scale\, Hughes aims for her life-sized pieces to dominate spaces and demand the attention of her viewers. \nAbi Box is a British artist based between London and Bermuda.  Graduating with a fine art degree from Camberwell School of Art in London\, her work focuses on gesture and mark making.  Box’s work is held in both a number of private and public collections including the UAL Alumni Collection\, Simmons Contemporary\, and Masterworks Museum Bermuda.  She has had several artist residencies in Switzerland\, Wales and Peru\, and recent exhibitions include; Artist’s Artist at OHSH Projects curated by Henry Hussey and Sophia Olver; Illusion and Abstraction: Capturing the Landscape at Bermuda National Gallery curated by Mitchell Klink; Paper Cuts curated by Kristian Day\, Saatchi Gallery\, London; The Smaller The Larger curated by Kate Hiley\, Sobering Galerie\, Paris; as well as having work selected for ASC 40° Celsius and the Bermuda Biennial. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Close By | Phoebe Hughes & Abi Box: Exhibition Opening
DESCRIPTION:Close By | December 4\, 2025 – January 10\, 2026 \nThe December exhibition brings together Phoebe Hughes and Abi Box\, two painters whose practices intersect through a shared attentiveness to landscape\, flora\, and the steady\, observational processes that shape their work. \nWhile both artists’ active printmaking practices initially drew them together\, the influence of print is present here less as a direct technique and more as an undercurrent—surfacing in the subtle repetition of forms\, the layering of marks\, and the sensitivity to surface that threads through their canvases. \nPhoebe Hughes is a Bermudian artist living and working in London. She graduated with First Class Honours in Fine Art Painting from Wimbledon College of Arts\, UAL. SUMMARY:FiveTwoNine + "METANOIA" Charles Harrop Griffiths & Ajani Tucker: Artist Talk
DESCRIPTION:FiveTwoNine + METANOIA Artist Talk with Ajani Tucker + Charles Harrop-Griffiths | Tuesday\, December 2\, from 5:30 – 8:30pm \nJoin us on Tuesday\, December 2\, in the Rick Faries Gallery for an Artist Talk and a FiveTwoNine networking opportunity\, where we’ll be discussing the works on view in METANOIA in an elevated after-work networking space\, designed for professionals looking to connect\, socialize\, and unwind. \nEnjoy crafted drinks\, music by DJ Kori Minors\, and an artist talk with Ajani Tucker and Charles Harrop-Griffiths to discuss the works showcased in the current exhibition\, METANOIA. \nBringing together works by Ajani Tucker and Charles Harrop-Griffiths\, the exhibition examines how digital processes shape\, distort\, and redefine our understanding of the material world. Both artists are concerned with how works that exist in digital space are rendered—or translated—from metaobjects into tangible art objects\, \nCharles Harrop-Griffiths is a London born British Mixed Media artist currently residing in Bermuda. His work balances on the edge of a physical and digital art process in response to the imbalance between reality and technology today. He produces etchings\, paintings\, photography as well as a wide range of digitally produced images\, animations and Virtual Reality experiences. His subjects differ widely\, but relate closely to the impact of technology on society. He has a keen interest in the importance of architecture\, nature and history which he attempts to reflect in his work. Charles has a background working in the film and architecture industries\, and studied Art History BA at University of Nottingham\, and Fine Art MA at University of the Arts London. \nAjani Tucker is a Graphic Designer and 3D Artist based in Bermuda. His work lives at the intersection of digital art and animation\, with a style that’s contemporary\, abstract\, and deeply rooted in optical play. Whether it’s on screen or in print\, he aims to create pieces that feel like they’re in motion—alive with energy\, colour\, and illusion. While I’m formally trained in graphic design\, my journey into 3D and animation has been entirely self-taught. That hands-on experimentation has shaped a practice that leans into bright\, bold palettes and unexpected forms. He is not driven by a single inspiration\, but he has always been drawn to the vibrancy of colour and the way it can transform a visual experience. Over the past four years\, he has exhibited locally and internationally\, including being selected for the Charman Prize Exhibition with an AR art piece as well as being exhibited at The Loren Hotel in Austin Texas. He views each project as a chance to push his ideas further and blur the line between still image and animation. \nClick to Register \nEntry is Free. \nSpecial thanks to the Bermuda Arts Council\, and Great Sound Ltd. for their support of this exhibition.

SUMMARY:"Janet Fish: Place in Time" Members' Preview
DESCRIPTION:Janet Fish: Place in Time\nin the Butterfield Gallery and Mezzanine Gallery – November 15\, 2025 – April 18\, 2026\n \n\nOn November 15\, 2025\, the first-ever exhibition of artworks by eminent American painter Janet Fish in Bermuda\, the country in which she was raised\, will open at Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art. This exhibition is a five-decade survey which will investigate Fish’s unique approach to still life painting\, as well as the intersections between her life\, her upbringing in Bermuda\, and her artistic practice. \nFish lived in Bermuda from the age of 10 until her graduation from the Bermuda High School for Girls in 1956. Her grandfather\, American Impressionist Clark Greenwood Voorhees\, was central to the American artistic community in Bermuda in the early twentieth century\, while her mother\, painter and sculptor Florence Whistler Fish\, also had personal and career ties to the island. Fish therefore grew up surrounded by not just the beauty of Bermuda\, but also the splendour of its art and culture\, influences which she carried into her career as a professional artist. \nJanet Fish: Place in Time will highlight the resonances of these and other life experiences\, particularly the rarely acknowledged but ubiquitous presence of subtropical colours\, light and iconography throughout her art. Her enchanting still life paintings\, which often included colourful textiles\, tropical fruits\, flowers and seashells\, often drew inspiration from her memories of Bermuda\, as well as her extensive travels. The island’s dense\, layered environment has also been cited as an influence on her layered and complex compositions. Through artworks\, objects and archival materials\, Janet Fish: Place in Time will explore Fish’s distinctive personal history and artistic approach\, showing how the two are interconnected while also marking her as one of American contemporary art’s most daring and individual artists. \nMelissa Messina\, an international art curator and Executor of the Mildred Thompson Estate\, is co-curating the exhibition. She states: “As a curator who has spent over twenty years organising exhibitions primarily for under-recognised women artists\, it is a joy to have the opportunity to work on this timely project with Dr Sara Thom and Masterworks. Fish is among the most important contemporary American painters\, pushing boundaries of the still life genre for six decades. Her work is sure to inspire the audience on the island where she was first inspired to become an artist as a child.” \nOrganising this exhibition\, the first for Janet Fish in Bermuda\, and a major survey of artworks from across her career\, is a particular honour for Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art. Masterworks Executive Director Risa Hunter states: “It is a profound honour to present this exhibition of artworks by Janet Fish\, an artist whose work has redefined contemporary still life with energy\, colour\, and movement. I am deeply grateful to Fish\, whose heart for hosting an exhibition in Bermuda has been the bedrock of this show. I hope that visitors leave inspired\, delighted\, and as moved by Fish’s work as we have been in preparing this landmark exhibition.” \nJanet Fish: Place in Time is curated by Melissa Messina and Dr Sara Thom and organised in close collaboration with the artist’s studio and DC Moore Gallery\, New York. A major catalogue designed by Avarie Graham and with essays by Messina and Thom will be published by Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art in conjunction with the exhibition. \nSupport for this exhibition is generously provided by individual and corporate sponsors\, including Margot Perot and Family\, Michael and Jane Neff\, Tracy Gibbons\, Carol Faries\, Claudia Wardman\, Scott Hunter and Janet Kemp\, Jim and Debbie Butterfield and Isabelle Ramsay-Brackstone\, as well as BWS-BOSS Ltd.\, Rosewood Bermuda and DEMCO. \n\n \nKEY DATES AND EVENTS\n\n\n\nExhibition Dates: November 15\, 2025 – April 18\, 2026\n\n\nPrivate Members’ Preview: Friday\, November 14\, 2025\, 5:30pm – 7:30pm\n\n\nPublic Opening: Saturday\, November 15\, 2025\, 10am – 4pm\n\n\nPublic Programme with Exhibition Curator Melissa Messina: Saturday\, November 15\, 2025\, 5pm-7:30pm
