DESCRIPTION:441 – Four Artists\, Four Styles\, One Show \nOpening next in the Rick Faries Gallery is 441\, or Four Artists\, Four Styles\, One Show\, a recurring group show that features emerging local artists. This year\, 441 will showcase the multi-disciplinary talents of The Healer (Kayuntae Ming)\, Eira McHugh\, Kayla Jackson\, and Sabriyya Harvey\, who work with many mediums including painting\, drawing\, collage\, and digital art. \nSabriyya Harvey is an educator and painter whose practice explores collective identity and its effect on culture-keeping and tradition in diverse examples of “community”. Sabriyya holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Mount Allison University\, New Brunswick (2021) and a Bachelor of Education from Brock University\, Ontario (2023). \nHer artwork has been represented in the Bermuda National Gallery’s Bermuda Biennial (2022) as well as numerous collaborative projects and exhibitions locally and overseas\, in Canada and the US. \nEira McHugh is figurative painter\, working primarily in drawing and painting. Her artist statement is as follows: \n“I changed my name to Eira a few years ago as my first real decision and choice I made for myself. It is still my proudest moment in life.” \nKayla Jackson is a figurative painter\, working primarily in acrylic in a colourful and nostalgic expressionist style. Her work is about highlighting and elevating moments of everyday life often overlooked in traditional portrayals of island living\, with a focus on the black\, and particularly female\, experience. \nThe Healer is an intuitive\, multidisciplinary artist who works across various mediums such as painting\, drawing\, textiles\, and collage. Her artist statement is as follows: \nBermudian. \nBorn near d sea. \nTrees all around me\, \nand a Loving family. \n— \nEye M surrounded by gems\, so that says everything about me really. \n— \nMy art is usually from the point of view of my younger self. \nMy bestie. \n  \n441 will be available to view until July 2\, 2024. The Masterworks Museum is open 10am – 4pm\, Monday – Saturday.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for this members-only preview of our next major exhibitions titled Looking Out: Canadian Artists in Bermuda and Finding Form: Isabel McLaughlin. \nLooking Out: Canadian Artists in Bermuda\nOpening April 26\, 2024 in the Butterfield Gallery \nMasterworks Museum of Bermuda Art is unique in Bermuda for its impressive collection of art by pivotal Canadian artists such as John Goodwin Lyman\, Jack Bush\, André Biéler\, Isabel McLaughlin\, Nora Collyer\, Paterson Ewen\, John Hartman and many others. Amassed and nurtured by Masterworks Founder Tom Butterfield\, the museum’s substantial collection of Canadian art\, which numbers over 150 pieces\, represents an ever-shifting view not only of Bermuda over the twentieth century\, but also of Canadian art and culture. Looking Out: Canadian Artists in Bermuda celebrates this collection and explores the stories of these artists\, how they viewed and depicted Bermuda\, and the place their Bermuda artworks hold in their careers and in both Canadian and Bermudian visual culture. \nIsabel McLaughlin: Finding Form\nOpening April 26\, 2024 in the Mezzanine Gallery \nA key Canadian modern artist\, Isabel McLaughlin (1903-2002) was also a frequent visitor to Bermuda from the 1930s to the 1970s. To Cedar Lodge\, her family’s Bermuda home\, McLaughlin invited several of Canada’s most important modern artists\, including Yvonne McKague Housser and Prudence Heward\, with whom she sketched and painted Bermuda’s unique scenery. In 2008\, Masterworks was gifted a collection of works on paper by McLaughlin\, including pastels\, watercolours and even her sketch book\, which comprises an unmatched record of her artistic efforts on the island and manifests the important link between architectural and natural forms in her art.
